Photographic panorama of San Francisco and a view of the city from the bay [graphic] / by Carleton E. Watkins. between 1871 and 1874.

Panorama of San Francisco, Calif. was taken from Nob Hill (west of Powell St., between California and Sacramento Streets) and encompasses approximately 180 degrees, from Alcatraz and North Beach to the north, across downtown to the east, and over the South of Market area to the southeast. A date of 1872-1873 is suggested by the presence of earlier buildings on the later site of the Palace Hotel, and by the spire on the First Methodist Episcopal Church which was completed in 1871. The photograph of a drawing by C.A.M. Taber depicts San Francisco viewed from the bay in 1848.

5 photographic prints : albumen ; images 39 x 51 cm. and 40 x 53 cm.
